Alice Music

Below are drafts of some of the music for Alice.

These are a bit rough-cut, but I want to get some reaction as early as possible, given the time scale. Length, tempo, etc. are all in play at this point.

This being the first go-round, I have no illusions that you will find any of these excerpts ideal. If any of them cause you to question my taste or even my sanity, you are probably correct. That's OK, so long as you get back to me with meaningful feedback.

If you're familiar with accessing various kinds of files on the web, you can skip the rest of this section and go directly to the audio files.

Downloading

If you want to download a file, right click (Command-click on Mac) its link and select "Download" from the alternatives offered. Once it's downloaded, you can double-click the file to get it to open.

The audio files are all in "mp3" format, which is extremely common. Most systems will play these without a problem. Again, click the link to play it (probably), or see the previous paragraph if you want to download it.

Alice Audio Files

• Prelude II_02.mp3 This is intended to start the whole show. It starts with an attention-getter fanfare, sets some atmosphere, and ends with the entrance of the white rabbit. The fanfare can be used as the basis for the rabbit's trumpet-blowing in Act II. Music based on the quiet atmospheric stuff could also be used for the transitions to I.3 and I.4 and for the deer scene in Scene II.5. White rabbit music could be used as the basis for the caucus race in Scene I.3.
• Down II_03x.mp3 These are the four stanzas of the down-the-rabbit-hole music in Scene I.2. They are intended to be sung with the words from the script, but the quickest way for me to get you sound was for me to use trumpet/horn/trombone/tuba instead of SATB. This will also be the basis for descent music in Scene II.3.
• Larger II_02-02.mp3 Music for "Larger" Alice transformation in Scenes I.3 and I.4.
• Smaller II_02-03.mp3 Music for "Larger" Alice transformation in Scenes I.3 and I.4.
• Cheshire II_02-02.mp3 For ppearances of the Cheshire cat. Could be varied for each.
• Processional III_02.mp3 This is the processional in Scene I.9.
• Brook Alice.mp3 Alice-jumping-the-brook music for Act II. Can be different each time.
• Brook Train.mp3 Train-jumping-the-brook music for end of Scene II.4.
